Captain America: The Winter Soldier marks Chris Evans’ third time portraying the patriotic superhero Captain America (four, if you count his brief–yet hilarious–turn in Thor: The Dark World). With the weight of the Marvel cinematic universe resting on his shoulders, we caught up with Chris to find out what kind of pressure he experienced making The Winter Soldier and whether or not Captain America could win in a fight with a certain caped, bat-inspired superhero from Gotham.

How does it feel to be the centerpiece of one of Marvel’s biggest franchises?

It’s always a big responsibility when you’re doing a Marvel film, because they’ve done such good work already. Everyone’s trying to bring their “A” game and there are a lot of expectations; and as a result, those expectations bleed into excitement.

What kind of pressure are you under?

It’s intimidating. It’s a blessing, but it’s also a mixture of pressure and fear and real gratitude. It’s also enabled me to do a lot of other things. There’s this dichotomy of feeling pressure and stress, mixed with real satisfaction.

What’s the best thing about being part of this film?

Every day on set is very fulfilling. You know you’re making something people will see, and you know you’re working next to people who are talented and experienced and know what they’re doing.
Given that Captain America was frozen in ice since World War II, does he have a hard time adjusting?

He’s adjusted, but it’s more about him acclimating to the work environment. He’s working for S.H.I.E.L.D. now so it’s not so much the acclimation to time, but the acclimation to the truth.

What truth does he need to acclimate to?

No matter what time period you live in, the higher you climb, and the more power you have; the more you get to see behind the curtain, the more you realize that power tends to corrupt. People will always have different opinions on their philosophies on how to govern, so he’s now just adjusting to how people really are.

LATimes.com recently posted a new article on their site in which Chris & Scarlett talk about their on screen chemistry and more. Check out the brand new photos & article below:

Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson
tease ‘Winter Soldier’ chemistry

When it comes to the superhero spy game, an easy facility with falsehood can get you far. Which helps explain the unlikely friendship that develops between Chris Evans’ unfailingly forthright patriotic hero and Scarlet Johansson’s ethically dubious operative in Marvel’s latest comic book adventure, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

“She made a life based on lies and deceit and malleable morality, and Cap couldn’t lie if he tried to,” said Evans, seated beside his costar in a sparsely furnished chamber at a Beverly Hills hotel.

“These aren’t two characters that you would necessarily know had so much in common,” Johansson agreed. “They’re deceivingly similar. They’re having this huge identity crisis…. ‘What do I want? Why do I want it? What do I need from someone else?’ We started to say, ‘Maybe they see the reflection in one another.’”
